The Kedarnath trek is 16 km uphill from Gaurikund, gaining around 1,800m in altitude. Most healthy adults can complete it.
Minimum fitness level:
- Able to walk continuously for 5–6 hours
- No severe heart or lung conditions
- No recent surgeries or injuries
Medical certificate required:
- A basic fitness certificate from a registered doctor is required at the trek registration counter at Gaurikund
Alternatives if you can't trek:
- Mule / horse — Available at Gaurikund, charges ~₹1,500–2,500 per side
- Palki (palanquin) — Carried by 4 porters, charges ~₹5,000–8,000 per side
- Helicopter — The fastest option, ~10 min flight from Phata or nearby helipads
